Valle D'Aosta

Valle D’Aosta -Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso ( Gran Paradiso National Park)

Valle D’Aosta -Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso ( Gran Paradiso National Park)

Autonomous region with special status in north-western Italy, with capital city Aosta, from which it takes its name, and bordered to the north with Switzerland, to the west with France, is the smallest Italian region and is located in the Alps, surrounded by four of the highest mountains of the whole Italy and Europe (the “Monte Bianco”, Europe's highest, the Cervino, the Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso) and crossed by the Dora Baltea, an important tributary of the Po River. Distinguished by alpine climate, with cold winters and cool summers, wonderful archaeological sites and important ruins , including the megalithic area of Saint-Martin-de-Corléans in Aosta. The natural parks are beautiful, and the castles, are fairy tale ones : the Fénis Castle (located in the homonymous municipality, is one of the most famous medieval castles in the whole Valle d'Aosta), the Region has excellent culinary specialties, among these , the “soupe à la valpelleneintse” (cooked with potatoes, boiled cabbage, fontina cheese and baked meat broth), the “carbonade” ( made from beef), the “blanc-manger” (delicious dessert made of cream, sugar and vanilla). Certainly, in our list we cannot forget one of the most typical agri-food product of Valle d'Aosta, the fontina cheese, an Italian DOP cheese with ancient origins. Exceptional the fruits and especially the wines, among the red grapes, the Petit Rouge, the Fumin and the Prëmetta; the Prié Blanc, for naming a white grape wine.
